I'm going to hit another store this week and see if I can't do the whole scenario over again, but with nothing out of pocket except tax!

While I was out couponing yesterday I stopped at Kmart to check out their herb plants. I didn't have any luck at Walmart last week, but I did quite well here. The plants looked a lot healthier and a couple were already bearing fruit! I got a couple of basil plants, some German thyme, strawberries, cherry tomatoes, and jalapenos and oregano. They were priced at $3.27 each, which is also 70 cents cheaper then they were at Walmart.



While I was there, I also picked up a mini green house for under 3 dollars. The Burpee seeds were also half price, so I got a pack of cilantro and a pack of Bibb lettuce for under a dollar each.



The green house came with individual soil pods. I added some warm water to rehydrate the pods and sowed the seeds.



As I was leaving I spotted this Salsa Garden, which I couldn't pass up. It came with a galvanized pot, soil, and seeds to grow cilantro, tomatoes, and jalapenos. To be honest, I definitely could have assembled this for a lot less than the price I paid ($9.99), but it gave me a good idea for a cute housewarming gift!

Everything is now resting comfortably on my sunny windowsill. Hopefully everything grows so I can enjoy them through out the summer (and save money by not having to buy them!).

When we ate at the Pirates House in Savannah, Ryan and I sampled some pumpkin cornbread that Ryan absolutely loved, so I decided to take a crack at it. Here's the recipe I used from allrecipes.com (modified slightly):


Ingredients

* 1 cup all-purpose flour
* 3/4 cup yellow cornmeal
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 2 eggs, well beaten
* 1 cup canned unsweetened pumpkin puree
* 1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
* 1/4 cup canola oil
* 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
* 1 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.
2. In a large bowl, stir flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, and salt and make a well in the center. In a small bowl, stir together the eggs, pumpkin, sugar, and oil.
3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the egg mixture. Stir just until blended; do not over mix. Fold in pecans. Divide the batter evenly among prepared muffin tin cups.
4. Bake in preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into center of a muffin comes out clean.

My skin looks and feels amazing right now, all thanks to my very sweet friend Ari She came to visit this weekend and brought me two gifts- a volcanic mud mask and a homemade facial toner. I finally had a chance to try the mask tonight and I am stunned! My skin looks so even and feels so refreshed!All you do is mix the powder with equal parts water and apply to your face. Ari mentioned that it might tingle somewhat when I applied it, but I didn't notice that. After about 20 minutes the mask was dry and ready to come off. Just rinse with warm water and done!


Twinkle is such a girlie girl. She stuck her paw in the jar right when I had my hands covered in the mask and couldn't stop her! It was very cute, but she didn't care for the paw washing she got after I rinsed my hands off.

Ryan and I just got back from an amazing weekend in Savannah to celebrate St. Pattys, which I'll write about soon. I wanted to make a quick dinner with things that we have on hand, so I found this recipe on the Muir Glen website, since I have so many cans of their wonderful organic fire roasted tomatoes.



Ingredients
1 tablespoon butter or olive oil
1 large onion, chopped (1 cup)
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2 cans (14.5 oz each) Muir Glen® organic fire roasted diced tomatoes, undrained
1 can (14 oz) reduced-sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves, cilantro leaves or Italian (flat-leaf) parsley
1 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 cup whipping cream



Preparation Directions
1. In 3-quart saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until onion is crisp-tender.


2. Stir in tomatoes, broth, 1 tablespoon of the basil, the sugar and pepper flakes. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 15 minutes. Remove from heat; pour mixture into large heatproof bowl; cool slightly, about 15 minutes.




3. In blender, place half of the mixture. Cover; blend until pureed. Return to saucepan. Repeat with remaining mixture. Heat over medium heat until hot. Remove from heat. Stir in cream and remaining 1 tablespoon basil.



This was SO GOOD! I served it with a green salad and breadsticks.
