    Kmart Double Coupon Event 2/17/11-2/26/11

If you have a Kmart near you get ready for some fun! It looks like Kmart will be doubling Manufacturer Coupons Up to .99¢ from 2/17/11-2/26/11.

There's quite a bit fine print involved here- you need to join their Shop Your Way rewards program, which is free but will require a trip to customer service. There's also a limit of 4 of the same items (which I imagine they'll be able to track via your card).

*I have NOT been able to verify this information with Kmart- I called both my store and customer service and neither were able to give me any information.*

I will stop by the store tomorrow afternoon and see if the double coupons are working (and exactly which Q's will double)- if so, I'll be posting as many scenarios for free/cheap items as I can find over the next few days.

    Keep your fingers crossed!

Couponing 101- Organizing your coupons (and why I keep mine this way!)

    Tuesday, February 15, 2011

Hopefully by now if you're following this blog, you've started gathering some coupons. Maybe from the Sunday paper, maybe a blinkie machine at the grocery store, or have requested some online.

I'm going to show you guys how I store/organize my coupons. Most people think that couponing takes a lot of time, but if you spend just a little time each week organizing, never missing another deal will be a breeze!

    Sunday Paper Inserts:

A rookie mistake that a LOT of couponers make (myself included) is trying to cut and file coupons. After a few weeks of this I realized that I was misplacing coupons and I had a pretty big mess, not to mention it's time consuming not only to clip but to organize, then have to sort through a pile of cut coupons to find what you're looking for. I now put the entire weeks worth of inserts into a sleeve inside a 3 ring binder. I know what you're thinking- "but how will you know what coupons you have?". No- I don't have a super-human memory. What I do have is a coupon database online.

    Here's how it works:

Let's say you're going to the grocery store, and you make a list of things you need:

    Eggs
    Soy milk
    salad

Now go type those words into the coupon database, and viola! It pulls up every coupon and where you can get it for each item! Here's an example for when we search "eggs":

Egglands Best Cage Free Dozen OR Organic Dozen Eggs - 01-30-11 SS
    $0.75/1
    6/30/2011
    Insert

It gives you all the information you need: The name of the product, value of the coupon, where the coupon is, and the expiration date. This says I can find the coupon in the 1-30-11 SS Insert, so I flip to that insert in my binder and find my coupon.

Another thing I like to do is take a few minutes to flip through, and write the latest expiration date in the insert on the front, so I know when to toss it.

For organizing all of my printable coupons and various booklets, I keep a smaller
    folder:

I try to only print coupons I know that I will use to conserve ink and paper (if you're printing a lot, set your printer on the lowest print quality to conserve ink!), but if there's a high value coupon that I think I might use, I'll print it as they only allow a certain number of prints and the hot coupons go fast.

For blinkies, home mailers, and other smaller / loose coupons, I use a typical coupon organizer:

Also, another great resource for coupons is the ALL YOU Magazine. It's only available for purchase at Wal-Mart or through subscription, but each issue has a ton of coupons. Again, I leave those whole because if a coupon I need is in there the database will tell me.

Hope this is helpful to you! :)

    Getting started 101

    Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Hi guys! If you're new to couponing and don't know where to start, you're in luck! There are some tips and tricks I want to share with you so you can become a coupon master in no time!

First thing first- Where do you get coupons?

    Newspapers:

In almost every Sunday’s newspaper, there will be coupon inserts. There are SmartSource (SS) inserts, Redplum (RP) inserts and P&G; inserts. Some weeks you only get one insert, some weeks 2 and sometimes we get lucky and get 3-4 inserts.
I subscribe to the Sunday paper so the coupons are literally delivered to my door. If I see the week is a really good one ans there's lots of coupons I will use, I'll go to the store and buy a few extra papers.
*A hint for those who shop at Publix- get two papers a week. When a BOGO sale comes around you can use two coupons for the two items and there's nothing worse than knowing you could have gotten something for free or really cheap if you had had another coupon...for me anyway. :)
Aside from buying newspapers to get these coupons, you can ask your neighbors/friends/family for their coupons if they don’t use them.
    Printable Coupon Websites:

There are several sites that you can get coupons from. Some include: Coupons.com , SmartSource , RedPlum , BettyCrocker , EatBetterAmerica , SnackPicks and facebook pages.

    Peelies:

These coupons can be found on products and are like stickers that peel off the product. Most of the time they are manuf coupons but from time to time they are store coupons so read them carefully before using them (you might be able to stack them with other coupons)

    Tear pads:

These coupons can be found near products in stores on, well, a tear pad! :)

    Hangtags:

These coupons are found hanging from bottles like wine, detergent, cleaning products, etc

    Blinkies:

These coupons can be found in machines near products. They have a blinking red light which is how they got the name Blinkies.

    Coupon booklets found in stores:

Many times stores will have booklets full of coupons in their store. Sometimes these booklets contain manufacturers coupons (with or without store logos) and sometimes they contain store coupons. Keep an eye out for these types of booklets while walking into a store and while walking around the store (there is never a set place to find these booklets).

    Inside Free Sample:

Many times you will find coupons inside of free samples that you request so always check for them before throwing out the packaging.

    Home Mailers:

These coupons come in the mail and you usually have to sign up to receive them. MOST of the time they are high value coupons since they aren’t readily available to everyone or they are for a new products and the company wants you to try it.
A REALLY great site to sign up for is www.vocalpoint.com. I get a ton of high value/free item coupons from them.

    Order Coupons:

You can order coupons from many sites. My favorite is Ebay. If you know there's a really hot deal coming up you can order as many coupons for the deal as you need.

    Trade for Coupons:

You can trade for coupons at several places online. I've traded several times on Hotcouponworld.com. It's a great thing to do because you can get the coupons you want, get rid of coupons you don’t need and it only costs me a stamp to mail the coupons.

You can also start coupon trading groups where you get a bunch of friends together to trade coupons. This can also be a fun “girls night out”.

    Email companies:

You can get GREAT coupons by emailing companies and telling them how much you love their product. I've gotten TONS of free product coupons this way. Go email your 5 favorite companies now and tell them how much they rock!

    FACEBOOK GLITCH! :(

Hey guys! If you've "liked" my blog on FB and not seeing the new posts, you can fix that by doing this:

    1. At the top of your Facebook home page click Most Recent.
    2. Then click the down arrow next to Most Recent and select Edit Options.
    3. A small box will pop up, and you want to choose the All of your friends and pages option.

    Thanks!
