Nutella Frappucino Recipe (Starbucks Copycat) ~ Dollar Tree Gourmet

Thursday, June 26, 2014

Hi everyone! I came up with a new Dollar Tree Gourmet recipe that's so simple and so yummy- *Nutella* Frappucinos! (I have the word Nutella in asterisks because I actually used a knock-off Dollar Tree brand, which was a dead ringer for the real stuff). Here's the recipe:

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup double-strength coffee
  • 1 cup milk (any kind, dairy or non)
  • 1 1/2 cups ice
  • 3 Tbls. Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
  • Optional:
  • 3 Tbs whipped cream
  • Nutella Topping (instructions below)

Instructions
  1. Make double-strength coffee by brewing with twice the coffee required by your coffee maker(that should be 2 tablespoons of ground coffee per each cup of coffee). Chill before using.
  2. Then combine all the ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until ice is crushed and drink is smooth.
  3. Pour into a 16-ounce glass, and serve with a straw.
  4. For Nutella Topping, microwave a tablespoon of nutella for 10-15 seconds
  5. Top each glass with whipped cream and drizzle nutella topping over the whipped cream
Enjoy! :)

CVS and Publix Hauls! May 14, 2014

Thursday, May 15, 2014

I Hi everyone! I went shopping last night at CVS and Publix and want to share some of the great deals that I scored with you guys!

CVS:

There's two really good deals going right now- Purex Detergent is buy one get two free. This was awesome as we are totally out and I needed to stock up. I was able to get 3 bottles for $6.29!

The next deal happening this week is Neutrogena- buy 3 face care products earn 10 ECB's. As I mentioned before hubby is super picky on his products so this was the perfect time to stock up on his face lotion. Here's the scenario:

Face lotion x 2 @ $7.99- $15.98
Bar soap - $3.19
Detergent- $6.29
= $25.46
- $3/2 Neutrogena sun care CVS coupon (was on a tear pad in the cosmetics section. I wasn't sure if it would work but the lotion is SPF 20 and it went through fine)
- 2 x 10 ECB's
=$2.46 + tax
$3.34 OOP

Earn 10 ECB's for the Neutrogena and 5 ECB's for hitting $50 in the Beauty Club.

Next stop was Publix. I had to pick up a few things for the week but I want to mention a really great freebie you can score! There's a coupon in the Mother's Day green flyer for BOGO Bush's Cocina Latina beans. There's also a manufacturers coupon for the same thing- meaning you can get them for FREE!
I hopped on EBay and got 10 coupons for just a few dollars. Last night I picked up 10 cans using 5 each of the Publix and manufacturers coupons, and still have 10 cans to go. This deal runs until May 23 so there's still time if you're interested!
Happy shopping everyone!

Great day at Publix! Axe Products, Clear Hair and Scalp, and Saran Wrap!

Today was a totally awesome day at Publix! We've really been needing to stock up on household items and toiletries, and my hubby is super picky about which brands he will use. For styling his hair he will only use Axe styling paste. I've been searching for a deal on this stuff for months and finally a great one came along!

Normally he pays between $6-$8 for a jar of this stuff. This week they had it on sale for $5.99, and there was a store coupon for $2 off 2. I did a quick search on eBay and found manufacturers coupons for $2.50 off one which I could combine with the store coupon to get them at a stock up price. Here's the math:

2 Axe styling products @ $5.99 = $11.98
- $2/2 Publix coupon
- $2.50 off 1 manufacturers coupon x 2
= $4.48 for 2 or $2.24 each!

I bought 6 but I have a few more coupons so I may go back and buy a few more.

The next deal was the Axe body wash. These were on sale for $3.99 and I used the same coupons and the same math:

2 Axe body washes @ $3.99 each = $7.98

- $2/2 Publix coupon
- 2 x $2.50/1 manufacturers coupon
= $.98 or $.49 each! Great deal!

The Clear Hair and Scalp shampoo is another brand that my hubby will use and also happened to be a good deal. I actually needed Shampoo and conditioner myself so I split this up between us - 5 bottles each. It was normally priced $4.99 a bottle but there was a Publix coupon that made it much less. Here's the math:

$4.99 x 10 = $49.99
- 10 x $1.50/1 Publix coupons
- 10 x $2.00/1 Manufactuers coupons
=$14.99 for 10 or $1.49 each

My favorite deal of the day was the Glad Wrap- each one was only 4 cents! :) The Manufactuers coupon was a printable so I only had two, but here's how it went:

2 x Glad Wrap @ $1.79 = $3.58
- 2 x $1 Manufactuers coupon
- 2 x $.75 Publix coupons
= $.8 - winning! :)

Today's trip left me with several months worth of products we need and $99.42 to transfer into savings!

I find my deals at www.iheartpublix.com. If you don't have Publix in your area but want to save big bucks like this just drop me a line and I'll help you find a way to get started. :)

Happy Shopping!

Tina

Great day at CVS!

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

I haven't been couponing at CVS the past few months because we were so busy with the wedding. Now were back, married, and happy to report a great shopping trip today! I only had $1.50 in ECB's to start with (my quarterly earnings) and I was able to score some great deals on things we needed. Here's the breakdown:

Transaction #1:

2 scope to go 4 packs @ $2.49 each
(These are part of an oral-b deal from this weeks ad where you earn 3 ECB's for each product. These happened to be included making them a $.51 money maker!

Total- (after tax and my $1.50 ECB) = $3.73

Earn 6 ECB's

Transaction #2:

1 Oral B 3D white electric toothbrush -$21.49

- $6 ECB's
- $4 coupon from CVS's website
Total (including tax)= $13.00

Earn 15 ECB's

Transaction #3

1 Physicians Formula bronzer - $13.79
1 physicians Formula concealer- $7.79

- 15 ECB's
- $3 cosmetics coupon that printed from the coupon machine

= $5.10 (including tax)

Earn 10 ECB's

Overall, I spent $21.93, saved $29.50, and earned $10 for next time. I invested a bit more than I normally would, but I had to in order to get started again. (Plus I really needed the bronzer).

I'm off to plan my next shopping trip- hope you all have a wonderful day!

Butt Massage Chicken

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

As promised, here's post number two about using what we've got on hand to make dinner. Tonight's special: Butt Massage Chicken, black bean burgers, and a random knish (did I spell that right?), all grilled up by my handsome guy.

By now you may be asking yourself "what the (insert four letter word) is Butt Massage Chicken?". I hate to even say, only because I know you all will think I've for some creepy obsession with the Lady herself, Paula Deen.

I don't.

But I do like her....a lot. :)

Paula is dear to my heart. Like me, she's from Georgia, though her town is easier to pronounce (I'm from Hephzibah- say that three times fast ha!). Like me, she's got a love for food and family. And very much like me, she's a hoot and a half. :)

For Christmas my awesome dad and stepmom sent me a bottle of her "Butt Massage", essentially a sweet and spicy BBQ rub. It's divine.

Tonight I used it to create a marinade for the chicken breasts I had in the freezer from the last sale. It came out great. Here's what I did:

1/2 cup BBQ sauce
1/2 cup fat free Italian dressing
1 tsp liquid smoke
2-3 tbs Paula Deen Butt Massage seasoning

Combine all ingredients- marinade chicken for 30 minutes. Grill until done.

The chicken was spicy, smoky and sweet- perfect for our al fresco pool side dinner. I'm looking forward to leftovers on a green salad for lunch tomorrow. :)

Snorkeling with sharks and tilapia tacos

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

We're going on vacation in 18 days. It's going to be 7 fabulous days of fun in the sun in the Western Caribbean. If you've been following me for a while you probably know that while I try to live frugally throughout the rest of the year, I really tighten the reigns before vacations and try to save as much as possible.

One thing I love to do is go through my pantry and freezer and plan meals based only what I have on hand. It's pretty easy at first but gets a little tougher as the time goes by. On tonight's menu: tilapia tacos with cantaloupe salsa. Normally I'd have used mango or some tropical fruit, but I have to say the cantaloupe was delicious. Here's the recipe:

Cantaloupe Salsa:

1 small onion (about 5 tbs diced)
1/2 large tomato
1 jalapeño, seeded
1 cup of cantaloupe
2-3 tbs lime juice (I used the stuff in the squeeze bottle- shameful, I know)
Salt & pepper

Finely dice all of the veggies and cantaloupe. Add lime juice, salt, and pepper, marinate in the fridge until ready to use.

I saw Paula Deen say the other day that she loves salt and pepper on melon. I can totally see why. Seriously try this salsa- the combo of sweet and spicy was amazing.

I simply sautéed the tilapia with lemon pepper and blackened seasoning, and served everything with tortillas, black beans and a little sour cream. Enjoy!

I'm going to try to post the new things I come up with every night. It will help me keep from obsessing about my vacation. And about snorkeling with sharks. :)

My CVS Scenario for the week- 4 dishwashing detergents, 5 spray cleaners, 2 toothpastes and 2 mouthwashes for under $9

Monday, September 17, 2012

I'm really excited about this weeks deals.  First off, I checked my Extra Care account at CVS.com and came across an awesome surprise- I had 10 Extra Bucks waiting for me, 5 from the CVS Beauty club and 5 Quarterly rewards.  That combined with what I had gave me 20 ECB's.
I was really happy to see a deal for Finish Dishwashing detergent.  I havent paid for detergent in literally years and I am on my very last few gelpacs from my stockpile.  This isn't the greatest deal of the century (as in, its not FREE), but the price is low enough that I'm picking up 4 boxes to hold me over until I find a better deal (9 cleaning products for $7.85 OOP, or $.88 each v. the $4 they would normally cost...on sale).  Here's what I have planned for today:

Transaction #1:
Lysol  / air wick  / finish  get $10 ecb wyb $30 limit 1:

4 x finish jet-dry 8.45 oz, powerball or gelpacs 10.25 ct $4
5 x Lysol spray cleaner @ 2.99

=$30.95

-            $3.00 Coupons

-            $20 ECB

= $7.95 OOP

Earn 10 ECB

Transaction #2:

2 x Colgate total 4-4.2 oz, maxfresh or maxclean 6 oz, 2-in-1 4.6 oz, or manual toothbrush 1 ct $2.99 get $2 ecb limit 2

2 x Act dental rinse (any) $3.99 get $1 ecb limit 2

= $13.96

-          $3.50 coupons

-          $10 ECB

= $.46 OOP

Earn 2, 2, 1, and 1 ECB

$8.41 total OOP

Sparkly Wine Glass Tutorial!

Thursday, September 13, 2012

I wanted to make a little gift for the ladies in the office I’ve been temping to thank them for all of their help and support.  Since the office has wine on Friday afternoons, I thought a wine glass for each of them would be perfect!  I’ve been eyeballing EVERYTHING sparkly lately on Pinterest so I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

Just a note- this is NOT my original idea.  This is a compilation of several different methods, techniques, and ideas.  I just want to show you how I did mine. J

Here’s what you’ll need:

-          Wine Glasses- I got these at the Dollar Tree

-          Glitter!!  I went to Michaels and compared brands side by side, and Martha Stewart was by far the prettiest.  Choose a “fine” glitter.  This kit was $22 (on sale from $30), so a bit pricey, but you really do get a whole lot of glitter and its soooo pretty!

-          Mod Podge- This stuff is glue, sealer, and everything in between all in one.  A jar this size runs about $10, but again, it’s a lot.  I barely used any for this project.

-          Paint Brushes- I picked up a big variety pack for $4.99 at Michaels, in the canvas painting section.

Start by cleaning your glasses well.  I peeled the stickers from the bottom of mine, but it left a sticky residue.  I used goo gone to get it off, then rinsed them, and, just for good measure, wiped them down with a paper towel and rubbing alcohol.  I wanted to be sure my surface was as perfectly squeaky clean so I could get maximum glitter adhesion.

Next, prime your work surface by laying out newspaper, or some other mechanism to catch the extra glitter so you can put it back in the jar.  I would recommend a smooth paper like newspaper of magazine pages, rather than a paper-towel, as the paper towel “caught” too much of the extra glitter and prevented it from going back into the jar.

Paint the bottom / stem of each of the glasses with mod podge.  I used a wide-angled brush so I could paint the stems without getting any on the bowl part of the glass.  If you don’t have a wide angled brush, or a steady hand, painters tape would be a good thing to use where you don’t want any glue / glitter.

Now it’s time to glitter-ize!  Sprinkle the glitter liberally all over the painted part of your glass, knocking off the excess as you go.  You want as thick of a layer as possible.  After you are done, slide the extra glitter off your paper and back into the jar, then move on to the next glass.

After your glasses are dry (I waited about an hour), you want to seal them by repainting with the mod podge again.  For this, I would recommend pouring a small amount of the glue out onto a disposable container, since you don’t want to get all kinds of glitter in your big jar of glue.  Also, keep in mind that a small amount of glitter is going to come off during this process.  I avoided transferring the colors by (a) using a small amount of new mod podge for each color of glitter, and (b) rinsing my brush between colors.

After you are done sealing just let your glasses dry and waa-laa!  Bee-utiful Sparkly wine glasses!  These are hand-washable as well (but not recommended for the dishwasher).

Enjoy!

I'm sick of spending money- how about a new CVS Scenario...

Friday, September 7, 2012

I've finally gotten to a point where (a) my stockpile is low and needs to be replenished, and (b) I miss blogging and getting stuff for little or no money, which motivated me to come up with a CVS Scenario for next week (9/9)!

I'm starting with 10 ECB's (Extra Care Bucks) which I got a couple of weeks ago for buying hair products that I needed.  If you don't have any ECB's you can still follow this scenario with $10 OOP (out of pocket).  I created this using only coupons that are coming up in this Sunday's paper, because (surprise!) I haven't been great about buying the papers each week either.

If you want a sneak peek of the whole ad you can check it out here, at I Heart CVS.

Transaction #1:

Revitalens multi-purpose solution 10 oz or blink tears .5 oz or gel tears .34 oz  $8.99 get $4 eb limit 1

Hershey's simple pleasures .75 oz $.67 get $.67 ecb limit 1

Right guard total defense 5 body wash 13.5 oz or bar soap 6 pk get $2 ecb wyb 2/$6 limit 1

Total: $15.66

-$2 off 2 Right Guard Total Defense 5 deodorant, body wash or bar soap products (exp 10/7/12) 09/09/12 RP

-$2 RevitaLens OcuTec multi-purpose disinfecting solution (exp 10/15/12) 09/09/12 SS

-$10 ECB

= $1.66 OOP

Get Back $4, $.67, and $2 ECB ($6.67 total)

Transaction #2:

Hershey's snack size 6 pk get $1 ecb wyb 3/$3 limit 1

Right guard / dry idea deodorant (select) get $1 ecb wyb 2/$6 limit 4

Total: $9.00

-$2 off 2 Right Guard Total Defense 5 deodorant, body wash or bar soap products (exp 10/7/12) 09/09/12 RP

- $4, $.67, and $2 ECB ($6.67 total)

= $0.33 OOP

Get Back $1 and $1 ECB (for next week)

That's a bottle of Contact Solution, lots of candy bars, two body washes, and two deodorants for $1.99 total OOP.  Not bad right? :)

I'm back!

Friday, June 1, 2012

Hello to all of my wonderful readers!  A good amount of you probably know where I've been, but just in case you don't here's the story...

Since my last post, things went from pretty bad to worse for me.  In addition to the divorce, my 45 year old aunt passed away, and I ended up leaving my job at the crazy place (long story- I'll post about it sometime) and finding a new one...in Afghanistan.  I left Tampa in late February to begin the process of deploying overseas (I'm not in the military, I went there as a civilian doing government contract work).  After several weeks of training, medical exams, and other very fun and exciting things, I traveled to Afghanistan and began my job as an Adminstrator there.  Intially things were fine for me.  I wasn't bothered by much at all, but after a while I started to become homesick.  It sucked sitting over there missing everything and everyone here in the states.  It got to the point that I couldn't even look at Facebook anymore because it just broke my heart to see everyone having fun and living life while I sat in utter boredom and misery there, and it made me miss my friends SO much it hurt.

I had an idea of what to expect- I mean, you hear the word "Afghanistan" and the Ritz Carlton doesn't exactly come to mind.  A big part of being there is learning to live without.  We went 5 days without hot water in very cold weather when I first got there.  I lived in a plywood hut with no running water.  The nearest female bathroom was a far hike from my hut.  Ramen noodles were actually a luxury item, and if you could get your hands on a power strip you were in awesome shape.  None of this really bothered me. I had a few comforts shipped over (my bedding was one), but all in all you just learn how to do without.

The job was great, people were fine (the ones I worked with anyway), but I just didn't belong there.  I decided to come back to Florida, and I've been here about a week now.

I know it sounds crazy but I'm really glad that I went overseas.  I definitely learned a lot and had a while to reflect on my life and what's really important.  Before I went I was just a mess, hanging in limbo and feeling sorry for myself.  While I was there I realized that I have a ton to be grateful for.  Who cares about a big house and a boat?  Those things won't be holding my hand when I'm 80.  I realized that I needed to evaluate myself and appreciate the relationships that I have with the good people in my life.

This is me in Kuwait, preparing to fly to Afghanistan.

So, for the third time this year, I'm starting over.  I'm staying with a friend and don't have a job yet, but I've been busting my butt trying to get a job and a place.  It may take a bit of time but I'll be just fine.  :)

"I miss your blog..."

Friday, November 18, 2011

"You know what - I miss it too".

This was a conversation I had this evening with a friend / former colleague that I happened to run into at happy hour.

She likely missed reading about deals and coupons...I miss posting that, but mostly I miss me. This blog is part of my identity.

Over the last few months life has changed drastically. Most of the changes have been positive, although none have been without a concerted effort towards adjustment. Six animals down to two (silly to some, but if you know anything about me, you know that my animals are as important to me as any other living being on this earth); big house on a plot of land traded for a 550 square foot apartment in the city; the illusion of a family replaced by the reality that in this world, one can only depend on themselves (true story).

That doesn't even touch my new job as a project analyst for a government contacting agency. One word describes my profession - CRAZY...albeit in a good way. It gives me purpose.

Learning has been key in this phase of my life. The last three months have felt like three decades, spent learning how to care for my family, animals, my AMAZING friends, and somewhere in that mix, me.

I have decided that from this day forward, I will post more. Vague, I know. It's a promise to myself to put the Blackberry down and be Tina, even if for just a few minutes every now and then.

A promise to you and to me.

Thank you Michelle.

A note to all of my wonderful followers....

Thursday, September 15, 2011

I know I haven't posted anything lately. I have been through so many changes in the last month that I don't even know where to begin.

First and foremost, my husband decided that he wanted a divorce. This is most definitely the hardest thing I have ever been through in my life. I still don't really know why, but picking up the pieces and moving on is not a short or easy process.

I've moved into an amazing apartment in South Tampa, about 10 minutes from my new job...which is another change.

I absolutely love my new job (even though I miss my old one terribly). The people I am working with have been so supportive and took me in as family right away. The job is not easy, but I really could not be more grateful for their kindness, support, and faith in me during this time.

I get a lot of flack for blasting my life on the internet, but I don't really care. My life is an open book and my heart is an open heart. I live to help and love people and that's always who I am going to be.

What I am most grateful for is my friends and family, who have kept me going through all of this. There are so many days where I just can't bare the thought of getting out of bed (though I don't sleep well at all right now), and they have been there for me so much. I'm a very fortunate girl to have so many wonderful, caring, and amazing people in my life.

I can't say exactly when I'll be posting Frugal, Fun, & Fabulous stuff again because I just don't know. I will though- please hang tight and don't un-follow me. I am here, and I will be better...one day.

If you read this, thank you, and I am sorry. This will be the only post about my situation- I've started a new blog for that: Story of a Divorcey.

Thank you all for bearing with me right now. I love that you read my blog and love all of you!

It's been a while since I've posted about a deposit to the cruise fund. Not because I haven't been saving though! I'm so excited about the deposit today because it's the biggest one yet.

My previous company offered a referral bonus if you referred someone who was hired and stayed with the company for at least 6 months. After taxes I was left with $1,100 from that to add to the fund.

I traveled to Georgia last week. I drove up to give my cousin my older car (I got a new one), and flew back. To make a long story short, I was bumped from two flights but offered $400 for each flight as an airline credit, so that's $800 found!

Another large portion of today's deposit is a payout of unused vacation time I had- $850.

In the past couple of weeks, I saved the following amounts at various stores:

Publix: $108.18

CVS: $83.84

Old Navy: $52.38

Kroger (during my trip to GA): $8.44

That brings the total for today to $3,002.84, $271.01 OVER what I needed!! :)

Amount needed: $ 3,238.00
Amount "found"
Deposit #1: $ 183.33
Deposit #2: $112.00
Deposit #3:$59.36
Deposit #4: $47.75
Deposit #5: $163.09
Today's Deposit: $3,002.84
Remaining: None!!

We cruise on September 3, so any amounts found / saved between now and then will go straight into savings, just in case we go over budget.
